Outreach

What is Outreach at First United?

At First United Lutheran Church our members are a community of believers who praise

and worship God and welcome new members outside of our current membership family.

We believe that Outreach comprises three parts and work to realize these goals:

(1) Hospitality and outreach to others in Christian love and fellowship.

This is accomplished through various efforts to provide opportunities for education and

fellowship. Our community/milestone Sundays slated for the months of February, May,

and October are designed around themes that contain a communication component that

creates an increased awareness of an identified need. During the month of February

we will focus on the issue of local hunger. Agency representatives from the community

will present informational sessions on the subject during Sunday education hour

throughout the month. A community fellowship meal will be offered for families and

individuals in need on Sunday, February 27, 2011.

A Fellowship Meal is also offered every first Thursday evening of the month at 5:00 pm

prior to the 6:30 pm Thursday evening worship service. A main dish and refreshments

are provided. Volunteers prepare side dishes and desserts. All are welcome to share in

this special time of food and fellowship!

Other outreach activities include staffing of the Welcome Center in the First United

Gathering Area each Sunday and visitation teams that provide hospitality and

information to first time visitors to our congregation.

(2) Integration of new members into our Christian family.

New Member Classes are provided for those who have tested the waters and are ready

to step up their involvement at First United Lutheran Church. We welcome you to

consider membership by attending classes that help you understand the Lutheran

journey of faith and how First United can help you take the next steps in your journey.

Following three sessions, new members are welcomed into the congregation at our

Sunday and Thursday services. Please contact the church office at (920) 452-2401 for

information on the next scheduled New Member Class.

The development of new member mentors will help our new members learn more about

the workings of our church and connect with the many study and fellowship groups,

activities, and committees. Don’t find a group that interests you? There is always an

opportunity to start a new group around your interests.

(3) Engagement of the members of the church in fellowship activities.

Many opportunities exist for involvement in the study, worship, music, and volunteer

activities at First United Lutheran. Contact our church office to receive our monthly

newsletter, The Good News, or view it on-line by clicking here. The Good News offers a

calendar of monthly activities and group meetings as well as upcoming special events.

A Tape Ministry has been active for many years, providing homebound and recuperating

members an audio recording of Sunday worship. Tape Ministry members produce the

audio recordings and make a personally deliver the CD’s to the members.
