Social Ministry at First United Lutheran Church

First United is strongly committed to serving those in need, locally as well as globally.

Ongoing Projects Throughout the Year

If you would like to get involved with the projects that have a consistent need there are many options like serving at the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen (Emmaus Meal,) working with refugee families we sponsor, sewing quilts for Lutheran World Relief, delivering meals for Meals on Wheels program, serving dinner at Bridgeway House, knitting or crocheting many different items such as prayer shawls, helping with our Laundry Love project, Serving food in our own Community Dinner project and a variety of other options.

 We have a partner congregation in Tanzania, Africa.  Providing funds through the purchase of Mt. Meru Coffee allows you to enjoy delicious coffee of your choice and support famers in Africa.

Designated Events

Throughout the calendar year, First United participates in specific service and giving events.  These include:

Christmas in July

 Each July a Christmas tree, decorated with tags featuring school supply items, is displayed in the Gathering Area.  You are invited to select tags and purchase those items.  We distribute the donated supplies to local students in need at the beginning of the school year.

 CROP Walk

 Church World Service sponsors an annual CROP (Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty) Walk to raise funds to fight hunger.  For the last several years First United has earned the golden tennis shoe for raising the most money in Sheboygan County. 

 Christmas Treasures

 The first Sunday in December members are encouraged to bring an unwrapped new toy to the church service they attend.  These are collect and given to local families in need.

 Adopt-a-Family

A number of organizations submit family information in a confidential manner to First United and members of our congregation “adopt” these families about a month before Christmas.  They are a list of wants and needs, and bring the gifts to church to be delivered to families in need.
